Is Basic Boring?

My personal style continues to simplify and streamline which has me wondering – is a wardrobe full of basics boring? For me, it’s been efficient to mix and match the few pieces that I do own, and whenever a new piece catches my eye I (almost) always gravitate toward the black colorway. Since I’m not spending money on loud trends or statement pieces, it allows me to budget more for quiet luxury pieces. If my look is feeling bland, I’ll spice it up with earrings, a bold lip color or a little sparkle.

  1. I hope not (that is, I hope basics aren’t boring) because I’m going in the same direction! My color palette is different (more based on navy and camel and neutrals) but I’m curating and streamlining more than ever, reaching for more classic shapes, and doing more with accessories. I’m finding the biggest benefit is in packing – I can now pack for the most complex trip in minutes and everything fits in a carryon.

  2. Basics are not boring. These valued wardrobe pieces free me up to dress quickly and with ease. My husband is retired and we now travel more than ever. I always seem to have more outfit combos when traveling than I realized when packing. It’s very rewarding.
